A  bachelor's degree in history provides an excellent foundation for graduate school. Our graduates are well prepared to pursue advanced degrees in history, musuem studies, library science, business, education, public policy, journalism, law, and medicine.

The ability to analyze and sort information, conduct research, and think critically are crucial skills you will gain as a history major that will prepare you to succeed in graduate school.

Our interns have contributed to exhibits and collections at the Spurlock Museum, visitor services and collections at the Champaign County History Museum, and more.

Bradley Harms

Alumni Spotlight: Bradley Harms (1995)

Bradley Harms (BA, '95, history) retired as a colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps in June 2025 after 30 years of active duty. He was the longest serving commander of Marine Helicopter Squadron One, and he served as chief of staff for the White House Military Office during the 2024 presidential election and 2025 inauguration. He is currently working for the aerospace company RTX in propriety programs.
