Nyhavn: a historic harbor area in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I studied abroad in Copenhagen for six weeks in the summer of 2024! I chose to study there because of the livability standards of the city and the class options offered through my program.

My first course was titled Postcolonial Europe: Narratives, Nationalism, and Race, and it had a built-in study tour to Marseille and Brussels. One of my favorite parts of this course was working with local activists to understand how colonial legacies continue to impact marginalized peoples, especially those who immigrated from former colonies. This class has contributed to my growing interest in decolonial studies, and I hope to include concepts discussed in class in my own research!

To wrap up my time in Copenhagen, I took a class about the Holocaust with a few classes dedicated to Denmark’s place in WWII specifically. While I was in Hamburg for a weekend, I was able to visit historical sites connected to what I have learned in this class as well! I was also lucky to have enough free time to visit museums and other historical sites outside of class.
