Eva Grein

Senior Spotlight: Eva Grein (BA'25, history with a minor in secondary education)

"Working with Stefan and my supervisor, Heather, has broadened my understanding of what history can be and how I can apply my degree. I discovered my passion for combining history, marketing, and design through running the Department of History's Instagram page. When I first came to the University of Illinois, I had every intention of graduating as a teacher. Exploring this intersection of history and communications wasn’t something I ever expected, but it quickly became one of the most rewarding parts of my undergraduate experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to see history through a new lens."          - Eva Grein

Internship Involvement

Eva completed her first internship during her sophomore year, where she posted and edited photos on Instagram featuring locations along the Mississippi River for Professor Helaine Silverman’s "Mythic Mississippi Project." Eva was the social media manager for the Champaign County History Museum during her sophomore year as well. She posted images of their collection to Facebook and Instagram and designed flyers for events. She was the Social Media and Communications intern for the University of Illinois History Department from the start of her junior year to the present. She created flyers, attended and took photos at history events, and promoted history events and courses on Instagram. Currently, Eva is a student teacher at  Mahomet-Seymour High School, teaching Economics, Sociology, and Civics.

Recognition and awards

Eva received the IIP Mary E. Mohler International Study Grant and the LAS Global Engagement Scholarship to study abroad in Scotland during summer 2024. She received a WE CU Scholarship in 2025 for her service work as an observer and student teacher for the past two semesters.

Plans after college

She plans on pursuing a career in digital marketing, communications, and social media management.
