The History Department is deeply committed to the scholarly exchange of ideas and people across national borders and divisions. The department has been immeasurably enriched by international students, faculty and visiting scholars, who hail from countries and regions around the world. Their contribution has transformed our intellectual community and our understanding of methods and approaches for producing historical knowledge. The History Department, like any institution of higher learning, could not thrive without the diversity provided by these exchanges and these outstanding individuals.

In recognition of these principles, the department voted unanimously to endorse the recent American Historical Association statement regarding the President's Executive Order provisionally barring refugees and visa-holders seven majority-Muslim nations from entering the United States.
