Research Description
My research explores how diverse groups within Brazilian Catholicism shaped the country’s political culture during its post-World War II democratic period, amid rapid urbanization and Cold War tensions. By analyzing the competing interests of Catholic institutions, clergy, and lay movements, I examine how they influenced debates on citizenship, social justice, and gender roles. My work also connects these Brazilian dynamics to global religious and political trends, such as the Second Vatican Council, showing the complex ways Catholic actors navigated modernization and political change.
