Biography
Alex (she/her) is a second-year PhD student whose research considers how British imperial criminalization of non-normative genders and sexualities contributed to the joint historical construction of "humanity," gender, and race in the service of imperial power and expansion. She is interested in queer and more-than-human resistance to empire, how empire responded to and attempted to control queer and more-than-human bodies and communities, and how empire's current manifestations continue to affect queer people and more-than-human worlds today. Prior to graduate school, Alex worked in housing search advocacy, international education program support, and service-learning. These experiences have shaped her belief in teaching and researching history as necessary forms of activism, resistance, and community development.
