My dissertation is entitled A Community of Preachers: The Bishops of Northern Italy and their Sermons, 395-450. In it I seek to determine to what extent the churches of northern Italy and their leaders thought of themselves as a coherent regional church with a unique sense of identity, how these churches fit into the mosaic of Late Antique Christianity, and why so many of these bishops' sermons were collected and circulated in the early Middle Ages.
